Cabinet reshuffle: Ramesh, Azad, Scindia in race for railways portfolio - NewsX

Their recent reforms push seems to have emboldened the government to make more tough decisions. Now, a re-energized, confident, no-can-do government is saying it can do all with an eye on the next General Elections. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's approach seems to be three-fold - bring in more big ticket reforms, play up development sops and take political control back into his hands. With Pranab Mukherjee's move to Rashtrapati Bhavan and Vilasrao Deshmukh's death the Congress is feeling the pinch of senior Ministers. So next on the cards is a reshuffle of the Cabinet which is already the largest the government has ever had. Railways seems to be the next talk of reforms. It's a Ministry that the Congress has taken back after 16 years and is looking to completely overhaul after Mamata Banerjee's exit. Many heavyweights are said to be eying the Railway Ministry. But sources tell NewsX that Jairam Ramesh, Ghulam Nabi Azad and Jyotiraditya Scindia seem to be lobbying for the Railways portfolio. CP Joshi, who took additional charge of the Railway Ministry met UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi this morning and laid out plans to get the Ministry back on track fueling speculation that he might be retained in the portfolio.
