The Bungalow Of Dr. Homi Jahangir Bhaba, The Father Of India's Atomic Energy Revolution, Was Sold At An Auction For 372 Crores On Wednesday.
The sprawling bungalow in Mumbai went to a buyer whose identity remained secret.

The bungalow named "Mehrangir" is located in the fancy Malabir Hill area. Several senior scientists, including Bharat Ratna CNR Rao had been demanding that the government must take steps to turn this bungalow into a museum by the government as a tribute to the "father of India's atomic energy programme."

The reserve price of this prized property was Rs. 115 crore. The three-storey bungalow has a built-up area of over 15,000 square feet. It is built on a plot measuring 1,593 square metres with a sea-facing view.

After Bhabha's unfortunate death in a plane crash in 1966, his brother Jamshed, was made the custodian of the estate. Jamshed died in 2007 and the property was transferred to the National Centre for Performing Arts. It is to be noted that Jamshed was a patron of art and culture and he was closely involved with NCPA.

Some employees of the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) had approached the Bombay High Court and Centre to stop the auction of the iconic structure. The High court, however, passed a ruling on Monday refusing to stop the sale.

The HC, however, said that it would hear the case in future and revoke the auction if deemed necessary.
