Bihar Rajya Sabha by-poll: JD-U candidates win despite cross-voting

Janata Dal-United (JD-U) candidates Pawan K Varma and Ghulam Rasool Baliyawi emerged victorious in the by-election for two Rajya Sabha seats from Bihar held on Thursday.

Almost a dozen rebel legislators of the JD-U voted for two Independent candidates — -- Sabir Ali and Anil Sharma — instead of the party's official nominees.

A news agency had quoted a Janata Dal (United) leader as saying: "We have definite information that nearly a dozen rebel party legislators voted for Independent candidates
