CBI to investigate into the Gopinath Munde 's case
  • 5 years ago
The Centre is likely to order a CBI probe into the fatal accident of Union rural development minister Gopinath Munde here last week. This follows a demand by the Maharashtra unit of the BJP seeking a Central probe into a possible conspiracy angle to the mishap.

The union Home ministry has already written to the DoPT asking it to issue a probe into Gopinath Munde's death.

Munde was killed in a collision with a Tata Indica car while on the way to the Indira Gandhi International airport on the morning of June 3. Though the driver of the Indica car was arrested, he was later released on bail.

The indications of a CBI probe came on Tuesday morning after Union minister Nitin Gadkari and Maharashtra BJP unit chief Devendra Fadnavis met Union home minister Rajnath Singh to press for a CBI probe into Munde's death.

Confirming that the home minister was favourably inclined to concede the demand, a senior home ministry official said the MHA would soon write to the department of personnel to issue a notification under Section 3 of the Delhi Special Police Establishment Act, transferring the case to the CBI.

The case is presently being investigated by the Delhi Police.
