India's nuclear safety report warns of Japan-like disaster - NewsX

The Controller and Auditor General of India has severely indicted India's nuclear establishment, even warning of a Fukushima or Chernobyl like disaster, if nuclear safety is not addressed in the country. In a stinging indictment of the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board, the CAG has said, "The AERB, which supervises safety at India's nuclear plants is toothless. It cannot make or enforce rules. If there is a nuclear accident, it can impose a fine of just 500 rupees on the nuclear plant operator."
