The 165-km Yamuna expressway that connects Noida and Agra is being thrown open to the public. The expressway reduces the distance between the two places by at least 2 hours. The toll for the expressway is around 346 rupees for a passenger car. UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav inaugurated the expressway via video conference from Lucknow. The project has witnessed many delays since it was conceived during the Mayawati regime in 2001. Put on hold between 2003 and 2007, it was revived in 2007 and renamed Yamuna Expressway. Frequent delays have been caused by farmer agitations over price of notified land in 334 villages where the expressway now stands.
