Expressing gratitude to his party leaders, BJP's Prime Minister-elect Narendra Modi on Tuesday said, "I have been chosen to fulfil the wishes of 125 crore Indians."

Stating that it is important to be ever hopeful, Modi said, "For some the glass is half empty, for others it is half full. For me it is full of both water and air," Modi said. "I promise that in 2019, I will give a report card of my government to all. I will for the nation," Modi said.

"An era of responsibility has begun. I need to be prepared to fulfil the new responsibility. Responsibilities are more important than posts," Modi said. "I wish Atalji was here," Modi added.

"I am grateful to be given the opportunity to serve the country," Modi said. "This election result has increased people's faith in democracy," Modi said.

"The government will be dedicated towards poor, youth and women," Modi said. Modi addressed the BJP Parliamentary party after being unanimously elected as its leader. Senior BJP leader LK Advani proposed Modi's name for the post, which was supported all party leaders including MM Joshi, Arun Jaitley and Sushma Swaraj.
