Assam violence: PM visits Kokrajhar, announces compensation - NewsX

Even as Assam riots have sparked a bizarre blame game within the State Government, the Centre and the Indian Army, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh visited Kokrajhar, the district worst affected in the violence. Prime Minister has announced a compensation package of Rs 300 crore for people hit by violence in six Assam districts. He said that "I have come here to share your sorrow and pain. This is time for healing. This is no time for recriminations" We need to first help the people to rehabilitate & bring peace". However, PM's visit to Kokrajhar suffered an initial delay as his chopper had to return to Guwahati 15 minutes after takeoff owing to a technical snag in the chopper.
