Afzal Ansari, elder brother of mafia-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari, who is also president of Qaumi Ekta Dal and is currently lodged in Agra jail, has announced party's support to Congress candidate Ajay Rai in Varanasi against BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi and AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal.

Significantly, Mukhtar Ansari is also accused in murder of Rai's elder brother. Mukhtar had contested 2009 Lok Sabha election on BSP ticket against BJP's Murli Manohar Joshi and had lost by just 17,000 votes.
