Rahul Gandhi sharpens attacks on Mamata Banerjee
  • 5 years ago
Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi launched a direct attack on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday. Addressing two separate rallies in Congress strongholds Malda and Murshidabad, Rahul slammed Banerjee for failing to provide security to women in the state.

Openly naming Mamata, Rahul said though the state now had a woman Chief Minister, Bengal had the dubious distinction of being ranked first in cases of rape. "On one hand you talk about women's empowerment, and on the other hand Mamata ji's government is setting new world records (in crime against women). Bengal has become number one in crime against women. You have a woman Chief Minister yet the most number of rape cases take place in Bengal," alleged the Gandhi scion.
