As the congress working committee meet begins in the capital, Party President Sonia Gandhi has come out batting for the Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh. In her opening session to the congress cadres in attendance, she termed allegations of corruption against the Prime Minister as baseless, and as part of a concerted ploy by the opposition to malign the government. She further added that while the government was doing its best to combat inflation, and price rise, the blame really lay in inclement economic environment outside India's domestic borders.
