Lal Muni Chaubey rebels, will contest against BJP

Rebel BJP veteran and former Buxar MP Lalmuni Chaubey on Monday resigned from the party, having spurned all its conciliatory efforts, and said he would contest as an Independent candidate in Buxar and also campaign against party's PM candidate Narendra Modi in Varanasi.
Mr Chaubey, hurt over ticket denial and the BJP's decision to field "outsider" Ashwini Kumar Chaubey in Buxar, reportedly refused senior BJP leaders' promise of a governorship. The 71-year-old leader, a Jan Sangh-era veteran who represented Buxar four times before losing to the RJD in 2009 by only about 2,000 votes, described BJP national chief Rajnath Singh as the "president of slaves".
