Shiv Sena to contest from Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Punjab

The BJP may be heading for an electoral confrontation with its oldest ally, Shiv Sena, in several states including Uttar Pradesh, where it is fielding its prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi.
In what appears to be payback for the BJP's dalliance with Raj Thackeray, the Shiv Sena has announced that for next month's national election, it will go beyond Maharashtra, the only state where it has a seat sharing arrangement with the BJP.
The Sena's national strategy includes Uttar Pradesh, which sends 80 MPs to Parliament and is vital to the BJP's plan for power at the Centre. A Sena leader has confirmed that candidates had also been proposed for Varanasi and Lucknow, where the BJP has fielded Mr Modi and party chief Rajnath Singh.
