Let's wait for some time: Kalam on Presidential Polls - NewsX
  • 5 years ago
The former President was elusive, when asked about the possibility yesterday. But he left enough indications that he is not averse to the idea. This comes at a time when parties are holding meetings to reach a consensus on the new President. Kalam was elected President in 2002, during the NDA regime.
In the 2007 Presidential elections, Kalam's name was proposed by some parties, but he backed out in the absence of a consensus. For Abdul Kalam, a lot will depend on how much the major parties throw their weight behind him. Kalam's apolitical credentials and stature as a scientist is likely to find him support from several parties. But with the Congress not too keen to see him back in Rashtrapati Bhavan, a lot will depend on the BJP.
