The succession war within the DMK is now out in the open. 19 Alagiri loyalists from Madurai has been sent notice for not attending a party meeting to protest the recent power tariff hike in the state. They have been asked to reply within a week. The meeting was convened by another influential party leader Stalin, regarded as Alagiri's contender in the race to succeed Karunanidhi. Sources say Stalin was insistent on taking action against the 19, even threatening to quit as DMK treasurer if notices were not sent. Alagiri himself has expressed surprise at the move.
