Dara Singh fake encounter case: Court says CBI has lost its credibility - NewsX

The CBI has come in for strong criticism from the Rajasthan High Court for its handling of the Dara Singh fake encounter case. Indicting the CBI for what the court termed differential treatments to the various accused, the court said that the agency might as well shut down.
A single judge bench said that the agency has lost credibility and has deviated from the objective with which it was set up. Coming down hard, the court said, "The aims and objectives with which CBI was established have been compromised with the CBI is proving counterproductive to these objectives and it's high time that the agency needs to be shut down."
An accused police official had petitioned the court alleging discriminatory approach by the CBI. The CBI had not sought the remand of BJP leader Rajendra Singh Rathore, who was sentenced on charges of planning the fake encounter. But it sought the maximum 13 days remand for the then DGP crime A K Jain, who had surrendered before the court.
It was alleged that the agency was deliberately stalling the case, leaving the accused to languish in jail. The court accepted the cop's plea and reprimanded CBI for what it called a travesty of justice.
