Cabinet approves heavy fines for traffic offences - NewsX

The traffic rule violators will soon have to cough up heavy fines for offenses such as drunk driving and over speeding. The Union Cabinet has cleared a proposal to amend the Motor Vehicle Act to deal sternly with violators of traffic rules. These will amp up the punishment for not using seat belts, jumping red lights, and driving drunk. The new rules will apply across the country if parliament approves of them but it leaves us with the question- will heftier fines leads to lesser offenses.
