Abuse case haunts diplomat; NY judge suggest 6 Cr fine- NewsX

Ruling in a horrific case of alleged ill-treatment of a domestic help by an Indian diplomat in New York. A US magistrate has recommended damages worth 1.5 million dollars to the victim. The magistrate said former diplomat Neena Malhotra was guilty of slavery and allegedly abusing her help Shanti Gurung for 3 years . Neena Malhotra was Press Counselor in Manhattan in 2006 when Gurung came to work for her. Neena Malhotra was charged with making Gurung work 16 hours with inadequate pay. The court was also told that she allegedly made Gurung give massages that made her 'uncomfortable'. Besides preventing her from traveling or calling up her family. Gurung reportedly fell sick with malnutrition after the alleged abuse.
