Abu Salem submits plea to close trial

After the blow from the Portugal Supreme Court asking for the repatriation of underworld don Abu Salem, is another setback in store for the CBI. Following the pronouncement of the SC order, Salem, who is behind bars, moved a TADA court in Mumbai seeking closure of the trial against him in the 1993 Mumbai blasts case, saying continuing it will be illegal. "We have moved an application seeking closure of trial as continuing with the trial will be illegal," said Salem's lawyer Rashid Ansari in Mumbai. According to the CBI source, Salem had actively participated in the transportation and distribution of sophisticated arms and ammunition, which were smuggled into India as part of the 1993 Mumbai blasts conspiracy.
