Land acquisition: Farmers protest in Punjab and Rajasthan

Singur-like situations of land acquisition for modernization and industry have arisen in other states of the country. In Rajasthan, farmers of 40 villages are protesting a government proposal to acquire land for a high-profile road link over 47 kilometers. In Punjab, in Mansa district, farmers are agitating over acquisition of 880 acres of land for an upcoming thermal power project in the area. Close to 400 protesting farming families have been arrested in the last week.
