he Posco land war in Orissa has escalated yet again late on Monday (June 27). The Orissa government has cracked down at agitators claiming that a human barricade is illegal. 12 platoons of police forces have been deployed in the POSCO area.
Women and children were seen at the forefront forming a human barricade protesting against land acquisition for the billion dollar POSCO plant. Their numbers NOW matched by the women police officers part of 12 platoons that have been deployed at Govindpur Dhinkya.
The Orissa government also declared the "use of kids" in anti-Posco agitation as "illegal" after redeploying security forces close to the dharna site at Gobindpur village, the entry point to Dhinkia area. Chief Secretary B K Patnaik said, "It is illegal to use children in the agitation."
Jagatsinghpur MP Bibhu Prasad Tarai, on the other hand, justified children's participation as "normal and legal". "No one has forced children to take part. As their parents are agitating, they come on their own," the MP said.
