Kim heads to Hanoi summit by train

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un is on his way to Hanoi by train for his second summit with the US. Kim left Pyongyang railway station on the afternoon of February 23, according to state-run broadcaster KRT.

Both the location of Kim’s meeting with US President Donald Trump and his means of transport have strong historic significance: Vietnam is a communist country that shares a similar history to North Korea and North Korean supreme leaders have track records of travelling by rail.

Senior North Korean officials – including nuclear envoy Kim Yong-chol, foreign minister Ri Yong-ho and Kim’s sister Kim Yo-jong – are also reportedly aboard the train heading for the February 27-28 summit in Vietnam.
