Everything We Know About Martin Scorsese's The Irishman
  • 5 years ago
It's quite possible you've heard about Martin Scorsese's The Irishman. That's because the film has been in development for nearly a decade, and, more notably, brings together some of Scorsese's greatest collaborators: Al Pacino, Robert DeNiro, and Joe Pesci.

And tonight, Netflix revealed the official announcement for the highly anticipated crime drama. Although we don't get a ton of info in this tease, the film stars De Niro as a digitally de-aged version of Frank "The Irishman" Sheeran and de-aged Pacino as young Jimmy Hoffa.

The film is based on I Heard You Paint Houses by Charles Brandt, which tells the story of Sheeran, the hitman for Hoffa, who ended up being ordered by crime boss Russell Bufalino to kill Hoffa himself.

Part of the reason the film has taken so long to get made is that the film is a massive gamble—relying on costly technology to de-age its two famous stars. With a massive $140 million budget, studios refused to finance The Irishman until Netflix stepped in to take a risk on it.

The film is due out this fall on Netflix.
