Working-level talks resume Sunday afternoon, amidst Kim Jong-un en route to Vietnam summit by train
  • 5 years ago
We are now just three days away from the 2nd North Korea-U.S. summit to be held in the Vietnamese capital of Hanoi.
The North Korean leader is already on his way down there, and as many expected, he's taking the train.
Our Lee Ji-won is in Hanoi and we go to her now for the latest.
Ji-won what do you have for us?

Devin, behind me is where the working-level officials from North Korea and the U.S. resumed their talks again about 2 hours ago.
Now they've been holding these talks every day since Thursday,... most sessions lasting for hours.
But this morning, unlike the past two days,... North Korean negotiator Kim Hyok-chol did not come visit Stephen Biegun at the Hotel de parc Hanoi.
Instead, Biegun was seen leaving the hotel early this morning.
It was later revealed that he went to a church for mass.
Meanwhile, earlier in the day, a plane from North Korea's state airline Air Koryo landed at Hanoi's Noi Bai International Airport.
It's reported to have carried luggage and some 100 guards... whom we saw at the Hotel Melia just a few hours later.
Now, the Hotel Melia is where North Korean leader Kim Jong-un is highly expected to stay.

Now Ji-won we know that Kim Jong-un is taking a train to Hanoi. Do we have any updates on that?

Yes Devin. This morning, North Korea's state-run news agency confirmed that Kim had indeed left Saturday afternoon.
According to Seoul-based Yonhap News agency, a local source said that Kim's train did not go through the capital of Beijing, but rather went straight down to Tianjin city at around 1 p.m. local time,... so that would mean 4 hours ago.
Now we are expecting Kim to take the train all the way to the Vietnamese province of Lang Son, on the border with China.
He's expected to arrive there early Tuesday morning.
The Vietnamese government announced a road closure from the border at Dong Dang station to Hanoi, so it's likely Kim will take a car for that leg of the trip.
As for President Donald Trump's travel plans, the U.S. media outlet Axios reported that he will leave Washington on Monday and get to Hanoi on Tuesday.
The White House has not yet confirmed the president's departure, but this is highly likely since it's been announced that the Secretary of State Mike Pompeo will be in Hanoi from Tuesday through Thursday.
