Matt Schlapp, Husband Of Trump Aide: 'Mueller Will Be Gone Soon'

Matt Schlapp tweeted Thursday that Robert "Mueller will be gone soon."

Matt Schlapp, chairman of the American Conservative Union and husband of Mercedes Schlapp, who serves as White House director of strategic communications, said on Thursday that "Mueller will be gone soon."  His comment followed the confirmation of now-Attorney General William Barr.  "Tomorrow will be the first day that President Trump will have a fully operational confirmed Attorney General," Schlapp wrote in a tweet. "Let that sink in. Mueller will be gone soon."  Notably, upon being sworn in, Barr gained oversight of special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into Russia's meddling in the 2016 election and possible involvement by members of Trump's campaign team.  The New York Times notes: "Mr. Barr's ability to treat the special counsel's investigation fairly has been questioned ever since it emerged that he wrote a 19-page memo last summer arguing that Mr. Mueller should not treat Mr. Trump's decision to fire James B. Comey, the F.B.I. director, as obstruction of justice." During his confirmation hearing, Barr suggested that politics would not influence his decisions but stopped short of assuring that Mueller's final report will be made available to the public.
