"The idea that the president or anybody on his team or in his administration would encourage violence is absolutely absurd," Sanders said on 'Fox & Friends.' "The president stopped, asked and made sure everyone was okay before continuing on with the event. Certainly, we condemn violence in any form against anyone, and that certainly includes the press." Her comment came after an attendee at Trump's recent rally in El Paso, Texas, reportedly became verbally and physically aggressive toward a BBC cameraman and had to be pulled away from him. That incident occurred amid Trump's disparaging comments about the media, which, according to the Washington Post, included: "Wow, look at all the press, can you believe that? They've gone down a long way since they started hitting us a little bit, right? They've gone down. That was a long fall, but there they are." Trump has also frequently called the press the "enemy of the people" and characterized reporting by a number of established outlets as "fake news."
