Democrats Respond
to Trump's State of
the Union Address Stacey Abrams gave
the rebuttal to President
Donald Trump's wide
ranging address. Abrams was recently the
Democratic nominee for
the Governor of Georgia. She called upon the
president to "tell the truth," and to
"respect his duties." There were notable
instances of Democratic
response during the
President's address. When Trump evoked the
"lawless state of our
Southern border," House Speaker
Nancy Pelosi
visibly shook her
head behind him. She and the president
have sparred publicly
about the border wall and
the recent government shutdown. When Trump touted that
58% of the newly hired
workforce are women, the newly elected democratic
women in Congress —
all wearing white — stood
and applauded each other. They overtook the
chants of "USA, USA, USA."
