1 In the Hindu traditional calendar, the Ekadashi that is observed during the month of Paush is called Saphala (also spelt Safala) Ekadashi. It is also referred as Pausa Krishna Ekadashi.
2 In the Hindi language, the word “saphala’means to prosper. Therefore, Saphala Ekadashi is rightfully described as a day when devotees are rewarded with good fortune by ending the miseries.
3 Lord Narayana is regarded as the main deity of this auspicious day, hence the Vaishnava devotees worship him with devout hearts.
4 This fasting day is considered as a medium to open the doors of abundance, success, prosperity and fortune.
5 While keeping the Saphala Ekadashi fast, devotees must only eat Saatvik food and donate essentials to the Brahmins and needy people.
6 Different Hindu Puranas including Bhavishya and Brahmanda Purana reveal the tale of Ekadashi as Lord Krishna narrated its glories to King Yudhishthira.
7 Hindus believe that by fasting sincerely on the day of Saphala Ekadashi, the devotees can wash away their sins. Hence, there are different devotional events organized in Vishnu temples where devotees can partake in various Bhajans and Kirtan programs.
