1 In Hinduism, Vinayaki is an elephant-headed goddess who is popularly identified as Stree Ganesha that is the female form of Lord Ganesha.
2 The goddess is called with many names that are considered to be the feminine forms of Ganesha's epithets like Ganeshani, Vighneshvari and Ganeshvari.
3 There are very few details about this goddess as well as her mythological stories and iconography are also not clearly defined.
4 Goddess Vinayaki was one of the early Matrika goddesses and the foremost Shakti of Lord Ganesha.
5 Goddess Vinayaki is the part of the 64 Tantrik Yoginis and is also depicted in the two famous Chausath Yogini (Yamini) temples located in North India.
6 As per the mythological theories, Lord Ganesha gained popularity in the Vedic practices and his female form Goddess Vinayaki became popular in Tantrik circles.
7 Few of her rarest sculptures can be found in the early-Vedic temples where elephant headed goddess is portrayed as an heavily armed deity but with elegant feminine features.
8 In her most famous sculpture, this sari-clad deity is shown adorned with ornaments and seated on spread out lotus or an ornated pedestal.
9 However, the most remarkable feature of this figure is that she wears a long snake as sacred thread just like Ganesha.
10 In Buddhist works, she is called Ganapatihridaya ("heart of Ganesha"). However, in the Jain and modern Hindu traditions, Vinayaki is an independent goddess.
