1 The Ganesha Sahasranama or Vinayaka Sahasranama Stotram is a Hindu hymn of praise and a popular recital of the names of Lord Ganesha.
2 Also called Ganapati Sahasra - Namavali, this litany is still being recited along with classical renditions in the famous Ganapati temples.
3 In this divine recitation, Lord Ganesha is referred to by over a thousand or more different names.
4 There are two primary versions of the Ganesha Sahasranama, with further modifications of each adaptation.
5 One of the major versions of this recital is also mentioned in the Ganesha Purana, which provides an all-inclusive review of Lord Ganesha's attributes and roles.
6 However, a shorter version called Ganesh Ashtottara-Shatanamavali which contains 108 names of Ganesha is daily chanted by the adherent devotees after Kakad Aarti in the temples.
7 A few of the wordings from this Namavali are;
Om Sumukhaya Namah, Om Ekdantaya Namah, Om Vinayakaaya Namah, Om Gajananaya Namah, Om Lambodaraya Namah, Om Vighnarajaya Namah, and so on..
8 The followers believe that a distinctive, blissful and spiritual energy fills up the aura with the chant of every name of Ganpati.
