During the shutdown, a very popular beach in Point Reyes in Northern California has been taken over by a colony of elephant seals. And more than 40 pups are born on the beach. The rangers have decided to keep the beach closed to not disturb the seals and their pups until they are wean, which will happen end of March at the earliest.
