Amazon Unveils Its New Delivery Robot

Amazon Unveils
Its New Delivery Robot "Scout" is the result of several
years of work by Amazon's
in-house robotics division. It will make its debut
in Snohomish County,
WA, close to Amazon's
Seattle headquarters. The robot has six
wheels, a box-sized
electrical system and moves
at close to a walking pace. Six Scouts will
begin delivering
packages to residents
in this initial phase. The robots are designed
to be autonomous, but Amazon employees will
accompany the introductory Scouts
to make sure they operate as intended. Eventually, the bots
could enhance the delivery
capabilities of standard carriers
such as USPS, FedEx and UPS.
