Kalavani Movie stars Vimal as the wayward son of Saranya Ponvannan and Ilavarasu. Vimal is yet to pass 12th standard and spends most of the time drinking with friends or teasing girls. Vimal falls in love with Oviya, whose brother and Vimal are at loggerheads. Vimal kidnaps Oviya and marries her. This leads to more animosity between the two. Oviya's brother swears to Vimal. Whether he manages to do that forms the crux of the story.

Kalavani songs are composed by S.S.Kumar, who has previously worked in Poo. Kalavani Comedy Scenes with Ganja Karuppu and Saranya Ponvannan became huge hits and are viewed repeatedly.
