Today is day 12 of the 50 day NewsX campaign to save Indian temples and heritage. Over the past 2 weeks, we've exposed the loot and rot that has resulted in acres of temple land being encroached, commercial and residential properties being built and temples suffering. All of this as the temple authorities and the babus in government offices either turn a blind eye or are themselves responsible for the destruction of India's heritage. But it's not just temple land that has fallen prey to greed and apathy. The idols that reside in the temples too have been reduced to mere Artifacts worth Crores of rupees. Originals allegedly stolen and sold off for profit. Replaced with exact replicas to fool the devotees. Today we bring you one such case from tamil nadu, where the courts too have intervened but nothing has been done. Those accused roam free. The idol still lost. The case has been going on for months but to no avail. An ancient Hindu temple with ancient idols representing years of Hindu heritage. All falling prey to the rampant greed and loot. What's even more shocking is that several people have been accused, several have been questioned. But all are now out on bail. Even the hr&ce officials have put their hands up. Saying that they aren't responsible for looking after idols. So the temple land is encroached and the idols are stolen. But who's responsible? Who can be held accountable? From top to bottom, it reeks of corruption, but that's the unfortunate reality and we at NewsX are going to expose the same. This is national emergency that nobody is talking about but we're putting it on the national agenda.
