‘Bird Box’ Faces Backlash For Using Real Footage From A Train Derailment That Killed Dozens

Within one week, Netflix's 'Bird Box' streamed 45 million times, which is roughly one-third of Netflix's viewership. The film received some controversy upon its release for spawning the 'Bird Box Challenge,' which involved people doing risky things while blindfolded. And now more contention is brewing due to footage from a real-life train disaster appearing in the film. According to UpRoxx, Netflix has decided not to remove the clip, which appears during a TV montage that portrays global fallout amid the apocalypse happening in the film. The footage is used to portray unrest taking place in Europe, but it's actually from a train wreck that occurred in 2013 in Quebec which killed 47 people. This is the second time Netflix has used the footage in one of its original projects.
