Desperate hunt for toddler who fell 360 feet down well continues

MALAGA, SPAIN — According to El Pais, rescuers are still searching for a toddler who fell down a well in southern Spain.

Around 2 p.m. on Sunday, two-year-old Yulen walked away from his family while playing in a mountainous area in Malaga, Spain, and fell down a narrow well. The family heard his cries shortly after the fall, but have not heard or seen anything since.

The hole is only 10 inches wide, too narrow to fit an adult. But it is believed to be 328 feet deep. It was bored in December during water prospection works, and left uncovered.

Rescuers lowered a camera into the well and found the bag of sweets and cup he was holding in a layer of compacted wet sand about 250 feet down.

According to the Mirror, emergency services have yet to locate the boy and fear he may be beneath the sand.

The spokesman for the Civil Guard told Spanish broadcaster TVE that efforts are being made to widen the well while also digging a separate shaft to try and connect to it. A third alternative is an excavation from the side of the mountain.

Elias Bendodo, who is president of the Provincial Council of Malaga, said rescuers will not stop until they find the toddler.
