Kim meets Xi before possible US summit

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un visited Beijing from January 7-9, spending his birthday in the Chinese capital as well as doing groundwork for a proposed second summit with US President Donald Trump.  Diplomatic analysts said Kim may have been trying to erode Washington’s confidence about the impact of international sanctions given his relationship with Chinese President Xi Jinping. Xi voiced support for future US-North Korea summits, saying he hoped the two sides “will meet each other halfway”.
