A California man was arrested after he allegedly stole his roommate’s $10 million lottery ticket and tried to cash it in.

A California man was jailed after he allegedly stole his roommate's $10 million lottery ticket and tried to cash it in.  The Vacaville Police Department reports that the roommate had purchased the ticket in December in hopes of winning some extra holiday cash.  He did just that and told the two people he lived with about what he thought was his $10,000 windfall.  Not long after, the man went to cash it in and was told the ticket was not only a loser but had also been tampered with.  "The victim suspected one of his roommates stole the winning ticket while he was sleeping and immediately reported the theft to the police," according to KVOR. The media outlet notes that "his suspicions were proven true when his roommate, Adul Saosongyang, tried to cash in the winning ticket at the Lottery's Sacramento District office."
Saosongyang also learned that the ticket was worth $10 million, not $10,000.  Given the high value, an investigation was automatically conducted. Before long, the Vacaville police and a lottery investigator compared notes and determined that the ticket was stolen from its rightful owner.  The alleged ticket thief was invited back to the lottery office, but, instead of leaving $10 million richer, he was arrested and booked into the Sacramento County Jail.
