The Impact of Depression

Depression is a long-term illness that has continued to raise many problems. Depression is different from the normal suffering, from the general lows of life... It tends to last for a long duration and there is no way out! The person suffering through depression loses sleep, appetite, etc. The psychic pain that the person experiences is akin to that of physical pain.
Women have a stronger genetic predisposition to developing depression when compared to men. It is explained by the fact that they have a professional life besides bearing the brunt of managing the family, as such, the pressure is amplified. Also, women tend to be ruminative and feel more than men, which, though a very good thing, may also predispose them to develop depression. Women are also subjected to fluctuating hormone levels, especially around the time of childbirth.
This does not mean that the children and the elderly are immune to depression. Antidepressant treatment is renowned to combat against depression and it can treat nearly 80% of cases!
