What is borderline personality disorder?

A recent study on the prevalence of mental health disorders in the U.S. found that about 1.6 % of the population has borderline personality disorder (BPD). People with BPD might struggle with painful thoughts, violent tantrums and frequent mood changes. Living with a borderline personality disorder, or being in a relationship with someone who has BPD, can be stressful! In the majority of cases, it is the women who are affected. (3 out of 4 people, precisely!)
If someone has BPD, it is not their fault! BPD is a condition of the brain and mind caused by misfortunate circumstances. Psychological treatments such as talking therapies and consultation with doctors are the best way to treat BPD. The treatment involves talking with a health professional either individually or in a special group.
