The proposal comes via a petition on MoveOn.org that asks "the New York City Mayor and City Council" to rename the block "after former President [Obama] who saved our nation from the Great Recession, achieved too many other accomplishments to list, and whose two terms in office were completely scandal free." As of Friday afternoon, the petition had about 8,200 signatures. Notably, Obama is being honored with the renaming of a street elsewhere.
Last year, the Los Angeles City Council voted to change the name of a portion of 'Rodeo Road' to 'Obama Boulevard,' notes CNN.
