One of the largest cargo ships in the world, MSC Zoe, lost at least 270 containers in the North Sea Tuesday night en route from Portugal to Germany.

Containers washed up on the Dutch islands of Vlieland, Terschelling and Schiermonnikoog, littering beaches and dikes with toys, freezers, and styrofoam. Hundreds of people are pooling their efforts to help the cleanup and the Dutch military is also involved.

Officials have issued warnings that three containers held toxic substances, with one holding a cargo of peroxide powder.
