Couples who post fewer selfies on social media are happier

SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA — A picture is worth a thousand words, or is it?

Apparently, flaunting your relationship online is not #relationshipgoals.

Relationship guru Nikki Goldstein told the Daily Mail Australia that couples who are constantly parading their wuv on social media might be dealing with the most problems.

A lot of these picture-perfect posts are not intended to capture cute moments but used to seek validation in the form of likes and reactions.

According to Goldstein, "The likes and comments can be so validating that when someone is really struggling, that's where they get their up from — not the person making the gesture, but what other people will say about it."

But not all photos are bad. Goldstein talks specifically about those photos that are just too perfect to be "genuine" or "candid" as the people posting them want us to believe.

She instead encourages couples who wish to post on social media to share authentic moments of their relationship instead of sappy Nicholas Sparks-inspired photos.

Goldstein encourages couples to ask themselves, "Are we more concerned about how the relationship actually is, or are we more interested in how it looks online?"
