A five-year-old boy in Randleman, North Carolina is reported to be in critical condition after shooting himself in the face with a gun he found in the car.

A five-year-old boy in Randleman, North Carolina is reported to be in critical condition after shooting himself in the face with a gun he found in a car, notes the Courier-Tribune. According to WFMY, he was in the vehicle with his mother at the time.  WGHP reports that they were waiting at a Wendy's drive-thru when the child unbuckled himself from his booster seat and found the .45 semi-automatic handgun inside the pocket on the back of the passenger seat.  It soon after went off.  The mother was reportedly not aware the gun was in the car.  The boy's father is said to have put it there when he was cleaning the car and forgot to remove it.
