Top presidential aides questioned over alleged civilian surveillance

South Korea's National Assembly is grilling senior members of the Moon administration over the top office's alleged illegal surveillance of civilians.
President Moon Jae-in's Chief of Staff Im Jong-seok,... and his senior secretary for civil affairs, Cho Kuk, are fielding questions from lawmakers -- over their alleged involvement.
The scandal exploded when a special inspector from the prosecution claimed he illegally gathered information civilians while working for the top office.
The Blue House strongly denies the allegations.
Im said there has been no spying whatsoever for political purposes,... and the allegations are a distortion of the truth.
He apologized for not being able to screen out such a person in the first place.
Cho echoed Im's remarks saying he will accept any criticism and hopes the session will shed light on the truth.
