Report: Trump Mocked Pruitt's Attempt To Buy Used Mattress, Congratulated Current EPA Head For Not Doing Same

President Trump has reportedly joked about some of the issues that had plagued former Environmental Protection Agency head Scott Pruitt.

President Trump reportedly joked about some of the issues that had plagued former Environmental Protection Agency head Scott Pruitt--including one scandal involving his alleged effort to buy a used mattress, reports The Hill.
The account was included in a recent Washington Post report about Pruitt, stating: "The president once viewed him as a loyal soldier and confidante, brainstorming on policy in the Oval Office and commiserating about Democratic attack dogs by phone. But Trump also has joked about some of Pruitt's missteps, according to senior administration officials."
"On more than one occasion, they said, the president congratulated [acting EPA chief Andrew] Wheeler for not attempting to buy a used mattress from the Trump Hotel, a move Pruitt once tried," the piece adds.
The effort was revealed in June when Democrats released testimony given by Millan Hupp, an aide for Pruitt, who said, "The administrator had spoken with someone at the Trump Hotel who had indicated that there could be a mattress that he could purchase, an old mattress that he could purchase."
According to an NPR report about the incident, Hupp said "she didn't know why Pruitt wanted the used mattress. But she said the mattress project came when Pruitt and his wife were apartment hunting, and Hupp was helping them."
Pruitt eventually stepped down from the EPA in early July amid "a spate of questions about his alleged spending abuses, first-class travel and cozy relationships with lobbyists," notes the New York Times.
