Eastern Lowland Gorillas Could Experience A 'Genetic Meltdown'

In recent decades, there's been a dramatic population decline for Eastern lowland gorillas in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. According to Gizmodo, new research has found that because of this population decline, there's been a lack of genetic diversity and a variety of harmful mutations. Researchers have discovered that as genetic diversity declines, more inbreeding is occurring among the species.
