on Disney to Drop
'Hakuna Matada' Trademark The online petition
was created by Zimbabwean
activist, Shelton Mpala. He says he created it
"to draw attention to the
appropriation of African culture." The petition
currently has more
than 50,000 signatures. The Swahili phrase
roughly translates
to "no worries." It was popularized by
Disney's 1994 song from the
blockbuster film, The Lion King. Disney trademarked
the phrase the same year. The company has not
