An Arizona man was able to fulfill a young girl's Christmas wishes after finding her letter to Santa Claus tied to a deflated red balloon which had floated across the border from Mexico, reports KVOA.
According to the Washington Post, Randy Heiss was hiking by his property in Patagonia, Arizona, last Sunday, when he spotted the balloon remains and an attached piece of paper with the name "Dayami" written on one side.
After seeing a number list on the other side, he figured out that it was likely a Christmas wish list to Santa which he suspected had floated in from Nogales, Mexico, about 20 miles away.
Heiss and his wife, who is fluent in Spanish, then tried to track down the child, and with the help of Radio XENY, they found Dayami, an 8-year-old who did indeed live in Nogales.
The next morning, the families met at the radio station where the Arizona couple came with items Dayami had asked for like art supplies and also gifts for her four-year-old sister, notes Nogales International.
Heiss has since been quoted as saying, "There's a giant fence and a lot of concertina wire out there but it's not going to break down the (Christmas) wishes of a little girl."
The experience was particularly meaningful for him and his wife who lost their only child nearly a decade ago.
