How Would You Solve The Opioid Crisis?
The opioid crisis is challenging communities across the United States and it is only continuing to grow. Much of this epidemic stems from the explosion of prescription painkiller drugs used in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Now, Donald Trump’s opioid epidemic commission is asking him to declare a state of emergency over the crisis. In order to prevent this epidemic from growing even more, Trump’s commission is suggesting several recommendations to improve access to medication-assisted treatment, establish and fund a federal program to reduce addiction fatalities, and fund more research for painkillers other than opioids.

Fortunately, the guests at Politicon are just as informed on marijuana laws as they are on the opioid epidemic, so they certainly had lots to say on the issue. The opioid crisis is affecting thousands of people and the more people that acknowledge that, the sooner the issue will be resolved. We were lucky enough to speak with the former RNC chairperson Michael Steele, The Young Turks' Hasan Piker, Masha Tiskova from I Clown You, Greg Proops from “Whose Line Is It Anyway?”, Kat Thomas and Julia Reed Nichols from The Green Light District, and writer and TV host Touré about the opioid epidemic and how it should be addressed.
